The said project is aimed at primary school learners, and its main purpose is to encourage young students to make their own handmade Christmas cards. Each card has individually handwritten wishes as well as the very unique design created by participants. The other idea of the project is that Polish students and their Turkish counterparts write their wishes in English.
The project is aimed at presenting cultural stereotypes as well as putting individual ideas in designing Christmas cards only to show how this peculiar religious time is perceived by young students. By using various symbols connected to Christmas and engraved in nations’ lore, students will express their individual concepts as far as designing Christmas cards goes. Moreover, the project is going to encourages participants to write wishes in a foreign language they learn as a part of their school curriculum.
There are two schools involved in the Project. One is seated in Turkey, the other in Poland. It is one-off project and my partner in Turkey will be contacted via email. Children will design the cards individually and signed them with their names, then all of them will be send to the participating school by post.
I am planning to create an album of snapshots that will be taken while designing and making Christmas cards and then upload them on TwinSpace platform. I believe that the project will encourage all students to study foreign languages, in that case English, even harder , and give them broader picture concerning various customs and traditions that are entwined in other cultures around Europe.
